Late on Tuesday afternoon, the Tyrolean municipality of Imst reached today’s peak of 35 degrees, the ZAMG announced on APA request. Bludenz in Vorarlberg, with 34.7 degrees, as well as the measuring stations at the University of Innsbruck and in the Tyrolean Landeck, each with 34.4 degrees, landed close behind at these values determined shortly before 5 p.m.

But the east of the country was not much less hot: Places five and six in today’s heat ranking went to two places in Lower Austria, Seibersdorf (34.3 degrees) and Wolkersdorf (34.2 degrees). In Vienna-Stammersdorf, the mercury climbed to 33.6 degrees Celsius.
However, as expected by the meteorologists, the temperatures remained well away from the Austrian record. This is 40.5 degrees, measured in Bad Deutsch-Altenburg (Lower Austria) on August 8, 2013. The more than 3,100 meter high Sonnblick in the main Alpine ridge in Salzburg on the border with Carinthia came relatively close to the station record today with 13 degrees: It is 15.3 degrees, measured on June 30, 2012.
At around 1 p.m., around 30 of the 180 ZAMG weather stations measured values above the 30-degree mark. Even greater heat is expected for Wednesday and the days after.
