The heat wave has been going on in Italy for several weeks and there is no end in sight. On the contrary, it will get even worse: up to 41 degrees in the shade are expected in the next few days. It has only rained briefly three times since November, the streams have dried up, the wells are empty, meadows and fields have completely dried up. OÖN foreign policy editor Clemens Schuhmann is currently in the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna. The otherwise lively inner city is deserted from midday because of the high temperatures: “You only go outside if you absolutely have to”.
