- Correct departure time: With children, we recommend a descent at night, as time flies the fastest. Also, there is less traffic at night. If the drive takes no longer than five hours, it is also advisable to leave very early in the morning.
- Meals: Take enough drinks with you! Fizzy drinks can upset the stomach, so pack non-fizzy water, juice, and cold tea. A snack is also a must – but beware: small children should only eat during breaks due to the risk of choking.
- Regular breaks: These can be used for picnics and exercise. If the car has been parked in the sun, open windows and doors to cool down before entering.
- Entertainment: Community games such as “I see something you don’t see”, (coloring) books or tablets/smartphones with the right content work wonders. Travel tables, which the little ones can use as a base for drawing, reading and playing while driving, are particularly practical.
- Prevent nausea: If children are prone to nausea when driving, anything that requires the eyes to focus should be avoided. When playing group games and audio books, you can keep your eyes on the road, which avoids nausea.
