According to the current state of investigation, an 86-year-old may have confused the brake pedal with the gas pedal when parking in front of a supermarket. Her car hit a stroller and toddler, broke through triple glazing in a store and crashed into a shelf. According to the police, the boy was thrown into the interior of the store, trapped and seriously injured.
The toddler was resuscitated at the scene of the accident and immediately taken to the St. Johann hospital, where it succumbed to its serious injuries a little later. An autopsy was ordered.
The driver was in shock and should be questioned in the next few days, said a commander of the responsible police inspection in Söll of the APA. She was not impaired at the time of the accident. The Austrian had rolled her automatic vehicle in the direction of a free parking space near the main entrance to the supermarket. At the same time, a 28-year-old Austrian woman was walking along the side of the store towards the main entrance with her one-year-old son in a stroller.
Further investigations into the course of the accident and the cause were ongoing. The boy’s mother and the accident driver were cared for by the crisis intervention team. Significant damage was done to the vehicle and building.
