A hunting dog bit into a young fox, the hunters watched and filmed the scenes with their cell phones until one of the hunters finally stepped on the fox’s head and killed it.
According to Christopher Böck, Managing Director of the State Hunting Association, the young fox may have gotten lost in the house and encountered the hunting dog. The dog’s attack on the fox was a natural reflex. “But why the hunters filmed this instead of sparing the fox the suffering and redeeming it – that is the question that arises. That is not fair,” says Böck.
Possible disciplinary action
While the Ried public prosecutor’s office had discontinued the proceedings against the hunter concerned, the state hunting association would certainly have consequences for the hunter, said Böck. “This has already been announced by state huntsman champion Sieghartsleitner. In such cases, we would need an independent disciplinary council in Upper Austria, as is the case in other federal states,” says Böck. It is all about the honor of the hunt. (cape)
