For two years it has been an opportunity for up-and-coming musicians and bands from the Steyr area and all of Upper Austria: After the success of the blues band “Roadhouse 44” at the premiere and last year’s victory of the blues-rock formation “The Raw-Cats”, the Music Award Steyr (MAS), supported by the OÖN, is now in its third season.
From now until September 20th, bands, singers and songwriters from all over the state can register for this competition. Prerequisites for participation are an already recorded own song and a small presentation video. A combination of public and jury voting will then decide on the winner until October.
“Last year we had 23 participants and more than 24,000 online votes from fans,” says Tobias Kammerhofer, project initiator and managing director of the Steyr marketing and film agency Werbeberg. Together with his partners Noah Kramer and Simon Vogelhuber as well as Günter Stöffelbauer from the event agency High Jump and the Ternberg musical instrument specialist Stefan Kern, he is aiming for a similarly inspiring result this year.
The third edition started in mid-May with a “MAS Opening Concert” in front of the Museum of Working World. After that, the MAS winners also performed for the first time at the Steyr town festival. “We’re happy to finally be able to do a live event with the MAS again,” says event organizer Stöffelbauer, who organized the gig in the Wehrgraben with last year’s runners-up “The Selenites” and “Bonnie and the Rat” in an exemplary manner. “I think it’s great that we are now going into the third round with the Music Award Steyr.”
Music video as the main prize
In addition to this top chance of live performances in front of a large audience, a professionally produced music video from the agency Werbeberg awaits the participants again this year as the main prize. Filming with last year’s winning band, “The Raw-Cats” from Linz, is currently in full swing.
Kern, who not only helps organize the award but also works as a musician himself, is also enthusiastic about the MAS: “I’m happy to be able to work on a great project for musicians from the region. I warmly recommend every band in Upper Austria lay: Use this stage and the chance for a professional music video.”
