The calls came in at around 1 p.m. at three police stations in Linz. The still unknown man announced that Linz Central Station would be blown up. Through extensive investigations, which also included tracking the location of the mobile phone from which the calls were made, the police tracked down a 16-year-old from the Linz-Land district.
At his home address, the investigators carried out a house search ordered by the Linz public prosecutor’s office, during which several electronic pieces of evidence were seized. No explosives could be found even by the specially trained police service dog.
Mobile phone was hacked
The 16-year-old was questioned, but he did not confess and stated that his mobile phone was apparently being accessed remotely and that an unknown person was responsible for the threats. This had previously been announced to him in a voice chat app. The 16-year-old was then returned to his legal guardians. The investigation is ongoing.
