Bolsonaro’s fraud allegations are increasingly worrying

“Foreign ambassadors defined the presentation on Monday afternoon as a Trumpist-style tactic to divert the focus of attention or to prepare the ground for a questioning of the elections,” the newspaper Folha de São Paulo published yesterday.

The diplomats, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Folha that Bolsonaro’s statement appeared to be aimed at his constituents rather than at representatives of foreign governments called to an unusual meeting.

Meanwhile, the newspaper O Globo published yesterday that some foreign diplomats left the Alvorada Palace, the official residence in Brasilia, “concerned with democracy” in Brazil.

An ambassador commented, also with confidentiality of identity, that “the only thing left to do is force the institutions to work” in October. An eventual second round would take place on Sunday the 30th. Meanwhile, a “head of diplomatic representation” said that he is going to prepare a report on Bolsonaro’s speech in which he will indicate that he tried to “disqualify” the institutions and there were sections in which democracy was threatened, reported O Globo.

During his presentation of about 50 minutes, Bolsonaro questioned the president of the TSE, Edson Fachin, for his alleged bias in favor of Lula da Silva and for having made statements abroad against the government.

Recently, Fachin said in Washington that in the October elections, in which the president will seek a second term, events similar to the storming of the US Capitol in January 2021 may occur.

Both the State Department and the CIA of the United States warned long ago about the danger that Bolsonaro’s preaching could destabilize the main country in Latin America.
