ÖVP country leaders want to shift CO2 price

In the “Presse” the Tyrolean VP regional chief Anton Mattle, who is in the state election campaign, says that he is “very clearly in favor of a further suspension of CO2 pricing”.

The new date is also not irrefutable for Upper Austria’s governor Thomas Stelzer (ÖVP). One cannot “stoically cling to planned system changes (…) if we rack our brains at the same time as to how people can still afford to heat their homes or travel to work”. From the office of Lower Austria’s governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner (ÖVP), it says: “A reassessment must always be possible. There must be no ban on thinking – not even with CO2 pricing.”

While the Greens reject a further postponement beyond October, the ÖVP would hardly have any problems, at least with the SPÖ, since the provincial governors of Carinthia and Burgenland recently advocated postponing the entry into force.
