Exactly 14,014 new cases have been registered since Tuesday, the Ministry of Health and the Interior reported. A week ago there were 15,149 cases. However, the number of hospital patients continued to rise.
However, the seven-day incidence is now only 911.4 cases per 100,000 population after 924.1. Broken down by federal state, Vienna has the highest seven-day incidence with 1,260.8, followed by Lower Austria, Burgenland and Vorarlberg (972.3, 864.9 and 844.1 respectively). Then come Upper Austria (842.5), Salzburg (763.5), Styria (732.6), Tyrol (677.7) and Carinthia (649.7). In absolute numbers, too, the federal capital has recorded the most new infections within 24 hours. There were 4,484 new cases there, 3,028 in Lower Austria, 2,178 in Upper Austria, 1,900 in Styria, 736 in Tyrol, 530 in Vorarlberg, 518 in Burgenland, 438 in Carinthia and 202 in Salzburg. The number of actively infected people increased by 3,110 cases to 125,501 throughout Austria.

The number of corona patients has continued to increase. Currently, 15 more people have to be treated in hospital with an infection, most of them in Lower Austria and Vienna (356 and 335 people). A total of 1,504 people with SARS-CoV-2 are currently in the normal wards. 76 people have to be treated in intensive care. Although this number fell by 14 people within a day, it increased by ten people within a week. And: There have been 13 deaths related to Covid-19 in the past 24 hours. According to the ministries, the pandemic has claimed 18,971 lives in Austria since it broke out. The Agency for Health and Food Security (AGES) has already reported 20,198 Covid fatalities.
The positive rate of the PCR tests rose from 13.1 to 15.8 percent within one day. In the past 24 hours, 114,424 PCR and antigen rapid tests have been registered. Most of these, namely 88,519, were meaningful PCR tests. More than 248 million tests have been carried out since the pandemic began.
191 first stitches
2,486 vaccinations were carried out on Tuesday, of which only 191 were first bites, 343 second bites and 1,952 third bites. According to the data from the e-vaccination card, 76.1 percent of the population or more than 6.8 million people have been vaccinated at least once. Almost 5.4 million people and thus 60 percent of Austrians have valid vaccination protection.
Upper Austria at the bottom
The protection rate (valid vaccination certificate) is highest in Burgenland at 68.2 percent. In Lower Austria 63.7 percent of the population have a valid vaccination protection, in Styria 61.6 percent. After Vienna (58.3), Tyrol (58), Carinthia (57.1), Vorarlberg (56.4) and Salzburg (55.9), Upper Austria brings up the rear with 55.3 percent.
Since the beginning of the pandemic there have been 4.6 million confirmed corona cases in Austria. Almost 4.5 million people have recovered from an infection.
