Major project with 230 apartments in Gunskirchen encounters resistance

The winning project in an urban development competition was recently announced. Eleven buildings with 240 apartments of various sizes are to be built on the former soccer field in Gärtnerstrasse. The winning project was planned by the Nowak-Wimberger consortium in Linz. There was not a single dissenting vote in the council.

While Mayor Christian Schöffmann (VP) speaks of a milestone for Gunskirchen, residents are demanding a change in the development. “We don’t understand why this project is being carried out with some six-storey buildings and why these tall buildings have to be built directly in front of our gardens,” complains Michael St., one of the concerned neighbors. If the project is implemented as planned, their semi-detached houses, especially the three on Gärtnerstrasse, would experience a massive depreciation. “We don’t want to prevent the project as such. Our only concern is that the six-storey houses are not built directly on the street and the height is reduced,” explains St.

A visit to the municipal office did not initially bring anything closer, but Schöffmann is now indicating that he is giving in: “There can and will be one or the other change. In fact, the six-storey building is a novelty for Gunskirchen. The building density on an area of 23,000 square meters is comparatively low . Nevertheless, I don’t want to rule out that we will forgo one floor and move away from the neighborhood with the tallest building.”

The planned settlement area in the district of Strass is to be developed via the Dahlienstraße Süd, which has been planned for many years, and then via the Bundesstraße 1 (new traffic light crossing). “We are in final negotiations,” says Schöffmann, outlining the talks with the landowners. (fam)
