For construction workers there is the possibility to get heat-free from a temperature of 32.5 degrees in the shade. In this case, workers receive 60 percent of their normal wages as compensation. There is no legal entitlement to this relief. However, the employer is reimbursed for the costs.
In the past, it was difficult to prove that the workplace actually had at least the required 32.5 degrees. The Bau-Holz union, together with the Chamber of Labor and Global 2000, has therefore now developed a heat app for mobile phones. It establishes a real-time interface to the nearest ZAMG measuring point and transmits a warning signal as soon as the temperatures are too high.
Josef Scheibl, works council member at Schmid Hochbau GmbH in Frankenburg, and Christian Burger, secretary of the Bau-Holz trade union, hope that many construction workers will use the app and that employers will also take advantage of the opportunity to give away the heat.
