Cobblestone spectacle: when street artists transform Linz into a colorful world

Acrobats flying through the air. Jugglers throwing pins in the air. Musicians who give their pieces to the best. With a big drum roll, numerous international groups of artists marched down the Linzer Landstrasse yesterday.

The procession was accompanied by the applause and shouts of the enthusiastic spectators, who followed the artists from the OK Square to the main square, where this year’s cobblestone spectacle was officially opened at around 4.30 p.m. with a shower of confetti and soap bubbles.

For the 34th time, Linz is all about art, fascination and magic, which will be held in the state capital for three days. “The plaster spectacle is one of the biggest festivals for us artists worldwide. Everything here is perfectly organized, that’s what we like most about Linz. We’re there for the third time and it’s always fantastic,” says acrobat Agent Butterfly from the artist group “Her Majesty’s Secret Circus”, who traveled from the USA with her colleague Agent Honeymoon.

“I absolutely want to go clowning right away, we mustn’t miss that,” says a boy excitedly to his mother, while she is studying the schedule eagerly. There will be no shortage of entertainment over the next three days, as 282 performances are planned every day at around 40 venues in the city center and on the new festival area in Urfahr.

The OÖ Nachrichten is also represented with a stand on the corner of Landstrasse and Spittelwiese. It’s worth stopping by, because you can win a voucher for a scoop of ice cream on all three days of the show.
