We want to continue on our common path because we are a tight-knit bunch,” says Madritsch. The new signings Severin Hingsamer and Lukas Schlosser are questionable in the opening game tonight (7 p.m.) at home against the WAC/Amateurs due to injuries. “The goal is for us to develop further as a team. We’re hoping for a top-five place in the table,” said Madritsch.

Revenge for 0: 8 debacle?

The Young Vikings also start the season with a home game with new coach Maximilian Senft today (7 p.m., Josko-Arena) against Deutschlandsberg. In the final round of last season, Rieder and a B-team slid into an embarrassing 0:8 debacle against the Styrians. “A strong opponent awaits us, but our goal is a successful start to the season,” says team manager Tim Entenfellner. Holders of an SV Ried season ticket have free entry to the home games of the Young Vikings. (tst)
