Former Brazilian President Michel Temer said Thursday that Dilma Rousseff, whom he replaced after impeachment proceedings in 2016, is “very honest” and denies participating in a parliamentary coup against her.
“There was no coup. When the story began with the so-called origin of the accusation [contra Dilma Rousseff] in the Chamber of Deputies, I came to São Paulo and stayed in my office for several weeks for a reason that I admit exists: the deputy is always suspicious, ”Temer said in an interview with the Uol news portal.
“There was no coup, what happened was the observance of the Federal Constitution. I just read it there, it says that if the President falls, the Vice President will take over, the first paragraph. The second point, I want to say that the former president, in sometimes they talk about corruption, this is a lie. She is honest. I know from what I have been able to trace that there is nothing to indicate that she is corrupt. For me [Dilma Rousseff] It’s very fair,” he added.
