0:2 false start for blue and white at newly promoted Vienna

Title favorite FC Blau-Weiss Linz certainly imagined the start of the new season of the 2nd soccer league quite differently: Coach Gerald Scheiblehner’s team got off to a bad start with a 2-0 defeat at newly promoted Vienna.

Two standard situations were enough for the Viennese to win at home: Linz had slept in a short played variation, Vienna’s Israeli newcomer Itamar Noy (26th) converted the cross. Four minutes later, Kerim Abazovic prevailed in a header duel from a free-kick cross against the blue and white chickens Christoph Schösswendter and Fabio Strauss.

The Linzers didn’t score in the second half either: Ronivaldo (76′) only hit the post, Matthias Seidl and Fally Mayulu failed at Vienna goalie Andreas Lukse (58′, 79′). “It didn’t fit from back to front,” says BW defense chief Schösswendter. Blue and white coach Gerald Scheiblehner was also not satisfied with the first game of the season: “It was a very bad performance. The question is why we were so imprecise in the front third. Especially in the first half we hardly had any offensive actions and conceding cheap defensive goals. You can’t perform like that.”

Steyr starts with a draw

Vorwarts Steyr did at least get a point in the opening game against Rapid II. Joel Dombaxi gave the hosts the lead after winning the ball. A carelessness by Neo-Steyr-Coalie Florian Eres when playing out and a deflected shot by Leopold Querfeld turned the game upside down in favor of the Viennese – 1:2. Alem Pasic scored before the break with a beautiful volley to equalize (45′).
