Punze, Pemse, Pfludern and Bidling

The world of plums and their semi-wild relatives is diverse. Bidling, Punze, Pemse, Zwispitz, Spänling, Pfludern and Zieberl – these are just a few names for the old varieties that were in home gardens.

But this diversity and the knowledge about it are being lost. That is why the Attersee-Traunsee Nature Park and the Ohlsdorf orchard (OSOGO) are planning an exhibition about old plum varieties in the Salzkammergut. It will be presented at the Nature Park Plum Festival on Sunday, August 28, at the Salzkammergut Agricultural Education Center in Altmünster.

But the two clubs need the support of the population. That is why they are already calling on owners of plum trees to send them creepers, mirabelle plums, plum plums, hallmarks, Pemsen, Zieberln and other representatives of the plum family – with the note “postage paid by the recipient” on the package. 20 to 30 pieces per variety would be nice, preferably still a little unripe.

The fruit should be sent either to the Attersee-Traunsee Nature Park, Steinbach 5, 4853 Steinbach am Attersee, or to OSOGO, Holzhäuseln 19, 4694 Ohlsdorf.
