Forest fire in the Höllengebirge: More than 100 firefighters on duty

More than 100 firefighters and a helicopter crew have been involved with a fire in impassable, steep terrain on the Brunnkogel near Ebensee (Gmunden district) since 3 p.m. Thanks to a forest road, the helpers can get up to around 600 meters from the scene of the fire, and a shuttle service with tank fire engines has been set up to transport water from the valley up the mountain. From there, the water is taken directly to the seat of the fire by means of a pipe.

“Unfortunately, the fire is fanned by the prevailing wind,” says Gmunden’s district fire chief Stefan Schiendorfer in a telephone call to OÖ Nachrichten. Firefighting water is also flown to the fire area by helicopter, and forest fire experts from the St. Agatha fire brigade are also on site.

Localization: A fire broke out in the Brunnkogel area on Saturday.
