There was little to be seen of start-up difficulties at LASK. Coach Dietmar Kühbauer made three additions to the first starting XI of the season in Philipp Ziereis, Filip Stojkovic and Marin Ljubicic – and all three indicated that they will be reinforcements.
In preparation, Kühbauer mostly played a 4-2-3-1, against Klagenfurt it was a 4-3-3 – with Branko Jovicic in the middle, who was flanked by Hyun-seok Hong and Peter Michorl. Was it a measure against the Carinthians, who, as expected, also played in a 4-3-3?
The LASK dominated the Klagenfurt
Without a ten, Sascha Horvath only had one place on the bench. Michorl fired the first shot on goal after 54 seconds and thus set the tone. With a lot of ball possession, LASK patiently searched for the gap in the Carinthian defense – sometimes too patient for Kühbauer, who directed the outline.
After eight minutes, Klagenfurt goalkeeper Philipp Menzel turned a shot by Keito Nakamura over the crossbar, and the Japanese won the duel in the 14th minute: Klagenfurt captain Nicolas Mahrer played a bad pass, Hong headed it to Ljubicic, who was alone the way to the gate. His hook around the last defender crashed, but the 20-year-old brought the ball in the direction of Nakamura, who only had to push it in – 1:0.
A lot went on Nakamura’s left side at LASK, but the 2-0 fell on the right: Goiginger and Stojkovic played through, the Montenegrin’s Stanglpass was blocked, but Goiginger switched faster than all defenders and converted into the left corner (27th). .
On the defensive, LASK had the air supremacy with Ziereis and Luckeneder, the rooms on the ground were blocked. At 29 degrees Celsius, goalkeeper Alexander Schlager did warm-up exercises in the middle of the first half.
Ljubicic scored in the Bundesliga debut
The captain had to intervene for the first time after a corner kick (50th). It was already 3-0 for LASK, because Ljubibic also scored a goal after his strong debut after the assist to make it 1-0. In a quick counter-attack, he kicked Nakamura’s Stangl pass over the line (49′). In the Cup against Schwaz a week earlier, Hajduk Split had scored three times on loan.
With the three-goal lead, LASK became a bit more careless and also allowed offensive actions from Klagenfurt. In the best game, Markus Pink acrobatically steered the ball from a tight angle onto the post (59′).
The Klagenfurt coach switched to a 4-4-2, Kühbauer responded with a 4-2-3-1. Horvath came on for Hong, while Ljubicic received a round of applause as he was replaced by second new centre-forward Efthymios Koulouris. Menzel parried the Greek’s first shot at goal from a tight angle (69′).
Michorl saw red and is missing against Austria
LASK ended the game outnumbered: When Michorl stepped on the Achilles tendon from behind in midfield in the 80th minute, Sinan Karweina knew immediately what that meant and threw his hands over his head: referee Harald Lechner showed him red, the The 26-year-old will miss away against Austria next Sunday. With one man more, Markus Pink made it 1:3 (89th).
The retreaded LASK showed a strong performance, especially in the first half, but Klagenfurt didn’t make it too difficult for the athletes. After the weak season it was still a first call sign – still without Robert Zulj, who followed the game from the stands.
