After several mudslides triggered by a storm in the Tyrolean Stubaital, the local Catholic pastor Augustin Kouanvih (60) is missing. The Innsbruck diocese has confirmed the corresponding media reports. Parts of the priest’s car, which was completely destroyed, were found in the Ruetz stream bed, the “Tiroler Tageszeitung” reported (Sunday). It is assumed that the clergyman’s vehicle was swept away by a wide debris flow on Stubaitalstrasse in the Medraz district during the storm on Friday evening.
The water rescue found several private items belonging to the missing person, including documents, business cards and a Bible. “We have to reckon with the worst,” said the Mayor of Fulpme, Johann Deutschmann, of the TT. According to the police, the further search for the pastor had to be stopped for the time being. The search can only be continued after the water of the Ruetz, which is flooded with water, has calmed down.
