Investigations after a fatal accident

Also determined after a fatal plane crash on Saturday in Styria. The plane took off from Pinkafeld in Burgenland, and just 15 minutes later the pilot made an emergency call. According to the police, the wreck was finally found hours later in a forest in eastern Styria. The public prosecutor ordered an autopsy.

The crash site in the Festenburg district of the municipality of St. Lorenzen (Hartberg – Fürstenfeld district) is located in a very dense wooded area that is difficult to access. The pilot (56) was considered an experienced aviator. Also on board was a 67-year-old from East Styria, who apparently had recently purchased the sightseeing flight over the Wechsel area as part of a charity flight day in Pinkafeld.

The pilot reported smoke in the cockpit shortly after take-off. After the emergency call, the pilot could no longer be reached, so his position could only be estimated roughly. Around 4:30 p.m., a helicopter sighted wreckage. The emergency services could only determine the death of the two men.
