The “Fledermaus” inspired despite the rain in Steyr’s moat

The moat was filled to capacity last Thursday at the premiere of “Fledermaus reloaded”. The Steyr Music Festival decided this year to stage a new production of the famous Strauss operetta, bringing another world premiere to Steyr, and it earned thunderous applause from the audience. Even the continuous rain that started in the middle did not stop them from enjoying the music.

director Karl Michael Ebner and director Suzanne Sommer had transferred the classics with many new ideas into the 21st century. This performance was a real feast for the ears, especially musically. The four head Janoska Ensemble, which did not leave the stage despite the rain, carefully and yet convincingly enriched the melodies with its sound and thus hit the nerve of the times. The fireworks of musicians and singers were so impressive that even one or the other less accurate joke with regard to current events could be tolerated. This “bat” with Austria’s only Grammy award winner Herbert Lippert, Stephanie Fritz, Martina Dorak, Joseph Luftensteiner, Andrea Purticcrowd favorite Daniel Ohlenschlager and Christian Drescher in any case, it deserves to be applauded in front of a full ditch until the end of the 28th season on August 6th.

“Culture gives warmth and solidarity in cold times and is able to overcome fronts,” said Ebner. “We want to give our audience food for thought. The line between courage and madness may be a fine one, as can be seen not only on stage.” And Lippert adds: “Music is the only understandable world language. The sounds should never be louder than now, in order to be heard for peace and understanding.”
