The German, who was walking from Anzberg towards Passau around eight o’clock, fell in a forest near the village of Haibach. On a steep embankment he slipped to a ledge. He was still able to hold on to a branch, but threatened to fall five meters down onto the Eisenbirner Straße L515 below.
Neighbors heard screams for help and called the police. Officers and a passer-by climbed the embankment to the ledge and were able to pull the exhausted man up. He is likely to have suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Passau Clinic, the police said on Monday afternoon.
Rudolf Kasbauer was one of the two police officers who brought the exhausted man to safety. “He wouldn’t have lasted much longer,” he says in an interview with Life Radio. “He would have fallen straight onto the street.”
