Fire brigade prevented forest fire in Mühlviertel

A fire broke out in a wooden hut in Neumarkt (Freistadt district). The situation was particularly dangerous because the hut is located in a wooded area. The fire had spread to the forest. The fact that the affected area was limited to 80 square meters is thanks to the forces of seven fire brigades.

A video shows the operation:

They were called shortly before 4 p.m. by a 73-year-old. The hobby beekeeper wanted to melt beeswax that afternoon. To do this, he placed the solid wax in a stainless steel bucket on a gas cooker. This was on a wooden table. Melting typically took an hour and a half, so the 73-year-old didn’t keep an eye on the process all the time.

When he looked, there was a fire inside the hut. He called 911 and used two fire extinguishers to put out the fire. But the Mühlviertler failed. Thanks to the support of the volunteer firefighters, the “fire was out” an hour later. “Further surveys will follow,” the police said in the evening.
