The attack happened just a few meters from the shore last Sunday. A 60-year-old California teacher jumped into the water to swim. She got too close to a baby seal. The mother defended her young, attacked the swimmer and dragged her under water several times.

The seal is well known to local environmental authorities. Her name is Rocky. She just got on the two weeks ago Kaimana Beach in Waikiki get her cub. Since then, the two animals have been observed and everyone has been warned not to get too close to them. According to local authorities, the woman is not to blame for the attack. Rocky probably wanted to go swimming with the cub. A kayaker finally came to the woman’s aid and shielded her from the attacks. The teacher survived the whole thing with abrasions and a shock.
