EU Commission Vice-President Margaritis Schinas wrote on Twitter on Wednesday: “Hate has no place on our lips or in our societies.” He emphasized: “We must never allow our formulations to betray the most essential principle of our existence: we are all equally human.”
With his statements, the Greek referred to one highly racist speech by Orbán from the weekend in Romania. Orbán said there on Saturday: “There is a world in which the European peoples mix with people who have arrived from outside Europe. It’s a mixed-race world.” On the other hand, there is the Carpathian Basin, for example, where European peoples such as Hungarians, Romanians and Slovaks mixed with each other. “We’re willing to mix with each other, but we don’t want to become multiracial.” The Hungarian prime minister also made a disturbing joke about the Nazi gas chambers.
While Schinas does not mention Orbán’s speech in his tweet, those close to him confirmed that he was referring to it.
