Russia limits gas to Germany amid tension over war in Ukraine

Gazprom justified the measure due to the need to carry out maintenance on a turbine, but the fact occurs in the midst of tensions between the Kremlin and Europe due to the war in Ukraine.

Within this framework, the Member States of the European Union (EU) yesterday reached an agreement to reduce their gas consumption by 15% between August 1, 2022 and March 31, 2023, and reduce their dependence on gas supply. Russian for next winter.

Hungary voted against the proposal, calling it “unenforceable, unjustifiable, useless, unenforceable and harmful”as reported to the press by the Hungarian Foreign Minister, Peter Szijarto.

The Hungarian Government was the only Member State of the Twenty-seven that opposed the initiative, which ended up being adopted by a relative majority.

Previously, the Luxembourg Energy Minister, Claude Turmesdescribed the agreement reached as “the best measure to react to the gas blackmail of (Russian President Vladimir) Putin”.

Last month, Gazprom had already reduced the daily volume of gas through the Nord Stream, also under the argument of having to repair a turbine, and a few weeks ago it directly suspended the supply for about ten days for “routine maintenance work”.
