A fire broke out in the shredding plant of a waste recycling company in Redlham on Tuesday. The Redlham and Attnang-Puchheim volunteer fire brigades were deployed with 30 men to extinguish the flames. The Red Cross had also been requested to be on the safe side.
Due to the heavy smoke, it was not immediately possible to localize the source of the fire. With the use of several breathing protection teams and three nozzles, the fire was brought under control and the shredder was then emptied in a controlled manner. The material that was spread out was then cleared away, checked for embers and completely extinguished.
As it turned out, charged batteries had ignited when damaged by the shredder.
