28 days have passed since the town square became a summer oasis. It’s supposed to stay that way for 24 days. Time to take stock and take a look at the upcoming program.
Closed until August 21st
Due to the construction work, the passage through the town square would have been closed between July 1st and August 21st anyway. That’s why the city made a virtue out of necessity and, together with the fitness company “deinImpuls”, created the Welser City Beach. Project manager Lisa Niederschick looks back positively on the first four weeks. “The offer is very well received, both by companies and private individuals. The combination of sandy beach and sporting action is something special.”
The City Beach is also to the liking of the people of Wels. A group of visitors said while toasting their drinks yesterday at noon: “We like it quite well. It’s cozy without any cars and we enjoy the beach feeling.”
crowd puller
The surrounding restaurants also benefit from the new city beach. At least the complex attracts an above-average number of people to the town square. The managing director of Wels Marketing, Peter Jungreithmair, knows this too: “This summer, for the first time in many years, we have been blessed with increasing footfall in the city.”
Repeat next year?
Both Jungreithmair and Niederschick would welcome a re-staging of City Beach next year. The latter says: “Right from the start it was a goal to repeat the event. That also depends heavily on the feedback from politics, business and the population.”
A boccia tournament starts this Saturday at 9 a.m. on City Beach. On August 12, at 4 p.m., the trend sport Spikeball will be held on the town square. The final of the Upper Austrian Beach Cup will take place there on August 20th.
