Tatü tata, the post is here – this slogan has not been applicable in the 1600-inhabitant community on the border to Lower Austria for about four weeks. At that time, postal delivery was relocated from the Großraming distribution center to the new postal base in Waidhofen/Ybbs. Since then, almost nothing has worked in Maria Neustift or in the neighboring town of Weyer – as recently reported in the OÖN – when it comes to letters or parcels.
An incident finally overflowed today, Thursday morning: A delivery with 80 packages was simply dumped in front of the municipal office – with the reference that the municipal employees as postal partners should deliver the packages or inform the citizens to pick them up. “It’s a catastrophe what’s been happening with us for weeks,” says office manager Katrin Füller when asked, “we haven’t received any mail at the office itself for 14 days. Every day, ten to twenty citizens call us to complain because they end up on hold for up to half an hour on a hotline at the post office. We’re promised it’ll get better, but it’s getting worse every day.”
However, not only are parcels not delivered, at least four parcels were simply left in a forest, as community doctor Urban Schneeweiß reports: “If they are delivered, then some of them are wrong. Postal items end up with neighbors or somewhere around my house. You pay for the delivery. As a doctor, I’ve been waiting for deliveries for days. There are no sweets inside, only medically necessary things.”
The move to the new post office in Waidhofen may be a coincidence, but has nothing to do with the current situation, says Post press spokesman Markus Leutgeb: “Unfortunately, there are problems with a company we have commissioned that should support us with the delivery .” Swiss Post will draw conclusions and put the cooperation with the company and individuals to the test. “The responsible area manager has already personally taken care of collecting the incorrectly delivered parcels. They have already been collected and will all be delivered today.”
