The woman from the Gmunden district was coming from Schwandt towards the B145 at around five in the morning. For reasons that are still unclear, her car left the roadway, crashed into the guard rail and was catapulted into a drainage canal. There the car slid a good 50 meters further before it came to a standstill lying on its roof.
The driver was trapped in the heavily damaged vehicle and had to be freed from the wreck by the Gmunden volunteer fire brigade using hydraulic rescue equipment. She was treated by the emergency doctor and taken to the Salzkammergut Klinikum Vöcklabruck, the police said in the afternoon. The vehicle was recovered by a tow truck. In the area of the accident, there were obstructions in the early morning traffic.
