The 28-year-old from Lower Austria had to admit defeat to the German Yannick Hanfmann after 2:29 hours with 4:6.6:3.4:6 at the Generali Open, which was endowed with 597,900 euros. The Kitz winner from 2019 was therefore unable to use his good draw.
However, Hanfmann is a “height specialist” and was in the final in Gstaad (2017) and here in Kitzbühel (2020). The German is now on Friday (2nd match after 1 p.m./live ServusTV) opponent of either the young Austrian Filip Misolic or the Serb Dusan Lajovic.
Albert Ramos-Vinolas and Roberto Bautista Agut had already fixed the first, all-Spanish semi-final. Ramos-Vinolas defeated compatriot Pedro Martinez (7) 6:4,6:2, the number three seeded Bautista Agut needed 2 against the Czech surprise man Jiri Lehecka (CZE) in 4:6,7:5,7:5: 50 hours.
