Former US soccer goaltender Hope Solo was sentenced on Tuesday to 25 months in prison, 24 of which with probation, for drunkenness, dangerous driving, child abuse and resisting authorities.
Solo will not have to serve her sentence, as the remaining month has already been served while she was in the hospital for addiction rehab.
“I made a big mistake. By far the worst mistake of my life. I underestimated how destructive alcohol has become in my life,” he admitted.
Authorities reported Hope Solo in March when she “passed out at the wheel” with the car running for over an hour with her two-year-old twins sitting in the back seat.
Having smelled a strong smell of alcohol, the policeman tried to test the former athlete, but Solo refused to do this: the analysis ordered by the court showed that the level of alcohol in her blood was three times the legal limit.
At sentencing, the judge dismissed allegations of child abuse and refusal to obey authorities, his lawyer said.
However, according to several North American media reports, the 2015 world champion and two-time Olympic champion in 2008 and 2012 will have to undergo addiction testing and recommended treatment.
This is the second issue the 40-year-old Solo faces with justice as she was arrested in 2014 for assaulting her half-sister and 17-year-old nephew during a family reunion: the case was dismissed after claiming she acted in self-defense. .
