Tyrol: Several houses damaged by mudslides

Several houses were damaged. “No one was hurt,” said district fire chief Klaus Portenkirchner to APA. According to his descriptions, eight objects in Hollersbach were cut off from the outside world on Friday morning. The emergency services had telephone contact with the residents.

In addition to Hollersbach, the municipalities of Mittersill, Bramberg, Neukirchen am Großvenediger, Wald and Krimml were also badly affected by the storm. Due to the high amounts of precipitation, several small streams burst their banks within a very short time. “Some residential buildings and sections of road were covered by mud, rocks and trees,” the police report said. Basements were also flooded.

The greatest damage occurred in the Grubing district of Hollersbach, where a large debris flow went off. “Yesterday evening, 15 agricultural buildings could not be reached,” said the district fire chief. Excavators have already started to remove the rubble from the streets.

The fire brigade triggered the district alarm on Friday morning. “Four disaster trains from Pinzgau are in use,” said Portenkirchner. Around 500 firefighters from all over the district will take part in the clean-up work. On Thursday evening, the Pass-Thurn-Straße (B161) between Salzburg and Tyrol and Gerlosstrasse (B165) will be temporarily closed.
