Spain confirms second death from monkeypox

The previous death had been recorded on Friday, and it turned out that it was also a young person. Thus, including the death that occurred in Brazil, this is the third to be produced outside of Africa.

The numbers

At the national level, Spain accounts for 3,750 patients with available information, and 120 cases where people were hospitalized. To date, the country has registered a total of 4,298 confirmed cases of the disease, among which 1,656 were reported in Madrid and 1,406 in Catalonia.

In Europe, more than 10,000 cases have already been detected. Among the most affected territories are Germany (2,540), United Kingdom (2,367), France (1837), Netherlands (878) Y Portugal (633). In response, the WHO declared the monkeypox outbreak an international public health emergency.

This strange disease is of the zoonotic type, that is, it can be transmitted between animals and people. Symptoms can include fever, headache, muscle aches, swollen lymph nodes, chills, exhaustion, and rashes or pustules on the hands and face.
