The animals, which weigh around 15 grams, were photographed by tourists on their way to the sea.
On Saturday afternoon, bathers on the beach in the bay, which is known for its shallow waters, noticed that some small turtles had emerged from the sand and were trying to find their way into the sea. The nest had not been reported. After the first surprise, the Coast Guard, who secured the nest, was immediately alerted. Employees of a marine conservation organization monitored the movements of the small turtles.
This is the second turtle hatch on Ischia in a short period of time, which testifies to the good quality of the sea. Other turtle nests are now being searched for on other Ischia beaches.
Due to the favorable, warm climatic conditions, the turtles can also set up breeding grounds further and further north in Italy. The turtle mothers particularly like to lay their eggs on the coastal strip in Cilento, in the southern Italian region of Campania. There is a national park there.
