Together with Livia Kraus and Maren Benko, Nadja Ramskogler started for the University of Innsbruck at the European University Games in Lodz (Poland). In this top field with 16 international women’s and men’s teams, the trio made it into the quarter-finals after beating Portugal and narrowly losing to hosts Poland. There they made everything clear after the individual matches against Switzerland and in the semi-final against Hungary. In the final, favorite Poland again waited. A 10:6 in a double match tie break by Ramskogler/Kraus secured the university European championship title.
“It’s just unbelievable and hard to put into words,” says Ramskogler jubilantly, “no Austrian women’s tennis team has been able to win a medal at these University Games to date and we won gold. It was just an incredible week with an even more incredible team. The atmosphere on the pitch was unique throughout the week and especially in the final.”
