Neuhofen has a new mayor

Neuhofen an der Krems recently had a new local chief: Today’s mayoral election was won by Deputy Mayor Petra Baumgartner. She received 1,822 votes, the SP candidate, Deputy Mayor Gertraud Eckerstorfer, received 1,422 votes. Neuhofen an der Krems has a woman mayor for the first time.

As has been reported several times, the renewed election was necessary because of the mayor’s sudden death Christian mason (VP) end of March. In the autumn elections, he managed to create a small political sensation: mason turned the previously “red” Neuhofen around and conquered the mayor’s chair for the People’s Party in the first ballot.

Baumgartner, who has been in charge of official business on an interim basis since Maurer’s death, is a trained kindergarten and after-school teacher. The 46-year-old is married and the mother of two almost grown-up daughters.

Today’s election has not changed anything in the allocation of seats in the municipal council. The ÖVP has had twelve seats there since autumn 2021, the SPÖ eleven, the Greens five and the FPÖ three.
