Fenprof warned on Tuesday of an increase in teachers’ sick leave next year, given that nearly 3,000 teachers are unable to change schools for health reasons despite recognizing eligibility.
“We will definitely have more sick leave cases,” Fenprof General Secretary Mario Nogueira said Tuesday during a press conference to wrap up and evaluate the school year.
One of the main issues noted by Fenprof was the new sickness mobility (MPD) rules, which allow sick teachers to change schools in order to be closer to the place of treatment, for example.
Of the 7,547 requests to transfer to a school, the services found that 95% were eligible, but only 4,268 teachers were transferred, according to figures released Monday by the Office of Schools Administration General (DGAE).
“Nearly three thousand teachers – 2876 people recognized as disabled, did not get a place,” Mario Nogueira warned.
The guardianship, he continued, “has opened up the potential of nearly 3,000 teachers who will likely have no choice but to go on sick leave next year.”
The new rules provide for criteria that, for example, limit the placement of teachers to school capacity, make a teaching component mandatory, and define a minimum distance between the school of origin, residence, or health care provider and the school. which the teacher asks to translate.
For Fenprof, the new regime “doesn’t make any sense” as it depends on the availability of places in schools and the subjects taught.
“The ministry will say: Azar, cancer should have attacked an English teacher and attacked a philosophy teacher. If it was English, then there was a vacancy, there was no vacancy for philosophy. 1st cycle teacher, but she was not, she is a kindergarten teacher garden, because the vacancy was for Cycle 1. Or a teacher who cannot travel should be from Beja, who had a vacancy, but he is from Braga,” he criticized Mario Nogueira.
“The ministry has about 5,000 vacancies left to fill and is denying employment to 3,000 teachers, recognizing that there are situations that justify relocation. Disabling diseases do not choose disciplines. People are their bearers, regardless of discipline,” criticized Mario Nogueira.
Starting this Tuesday, teachers who were unable to find a spot can improve their applications.
According to Mario Nogueira, about “400 teachers” will deliver documents to add to their processes, to which should be added other “colleagues who filed petitions because they could not apply because they were less than 20 kilometers away.”
According to the DGAE, schools had almost ten thousand vacancies to place teachers on mobility, but only 46% were filled.
The highest average occupancy rate was recorded in the Teachers’ Zone (QZP) in the northern and central regions, where sick teachers account for 65% to 83% of school capacity, in contrast to QZP in Alentejo, where occupancy did not reach half, Algarve (7%) and the Lisbon metropolitan area (5%).
