Inconsistent on weekends
However, a change is expected for Friday. While the sunny and dry weather will initially continue, the risk of rain and thunderstorms will increase later in the day. The fall in the weather also affects the risk of severe weather: The Austrian Severe Weather Center warns of hail, heavy rain and gusts of wind that can move across the country on Friday evening.
The weekend will then be cooler, the ZAMG expects occasional rain showers. On Saturday and Sunday, temperatures will remain well below the 30 degree mark with maximum values of 25 and 26 degrees. “Whether the following days are suitable for swimming is a matter of taste,” said meteorologist Hofer. The pleasant temperatures are accompanied by occasional showers and gusts of wind of 30 km/h. According to the storm center, strong thunderstorms can occur again on Sunday.
Difficult August forecast
According to current information, no further heat waves will occur in the first half of August. According to Hofer, it will remain summery, but cooler: there will be no peak values of 35 degrees.
To speak of a heat wave, the thermometer has to climb over 30 degrees on three consecutive days, says the meteorologist. This year there have already been some heat waves with subsequent cooling. The increase in these heat waves is due to climate change, Hofer said.
