With an absolute majority, the party of Mayor Fabian Grüneis voted for a price increase for holiday care for elementary school children. This is connected to the VS afternoon care, so far 120 euros have been due ten times a year for five care days a week.
From autumn, the municipality will charge an additional ten euros per day of vacation, up to a maximum of forty euros per week. There is a sibling discount – for two children with seven weeks of holiday care there are additional costs of 490 euros per year, the opposition parties SP, FP and Greens calculate in a broadcast.
Mayor Grüneis defends the step: “The communities in the area handle it similarly.” Waizenkirchen has a budget deficit of 600,000 euros for support. He does not accept criticism that the measure does not even bring in ten thousand euros: “We collect many contributions that do not cover the costs – for garbage disposal, for example.” In addition, children were often registered and not brought. “We have to organize and pay the staff, that’s not possible,” says Grüneis. For low-income families, there is a counseling service to get help.
