The dream of big money has ended in a financial disaster for a man from the Innviertel region. The 65-year-old from the Braunau district became aware of investment opportunities in the cryptocurrency Bitcoin on the Internet in spring. With the guidance of a supposed financial expert who had contacted him, he opened a Paysafe account in Luxembourg. There he transferred tens of thousands of euros.
He continued to stay in touch with the self-proclaimed financial advisor via a news service. The fraudster found out about a larger sale by the 65-year-old and then tempted him to make several transfers again. In total, the 65-year-old transferred a six-digit euro amount to the account in Luxembourg, the police said on Tuesday afternoon. The Innviertler will probably never see the money again.
