Hours of use: sailing boat sank in the Attersee

On the night of Tuesday, the sailing boat, which was attached to a buoy near Nußdorf, filled up with water and sank for reasons that were previously unknown. “We don’t know yet whether the boat may have had a leak, it’s still being investigated. It was important, however, that the engine and the petrol canisters that were on board were first taken from the sunken boat in order to avoid environmental damage,” says Christoph Bauer, deputy local manager of the Nußdorf water rescue service.

Lifting balloons for boat recovery

Equipped with straps and lines, several water rescue divers attached the lifting balloons to the “Blue Pearl” in order to bring the boat back above the waterline. “Such a balloon is inflated with air and lifts up to 1000 kilos. After we had transported it to the water surface, the water had to be pumped out of the sailboat before we could bring it to shore with a boat crane. We had energetic people Support from the Attersee fire brigade, who were able to pump the water out of the boat in just a few minutes with a high-power pump. Several thousand liters had already accumulated there,” says Bauer.

The technically complex operation was completed around 4 p.m., nobody was injured because nobody was on the sailing boat during the night.
