Peter Geisböck, department head of the sports and leisure facilities in the city of Ried, is satisfied. No wonder, the outdoor pool season so far is going well. “We were able to welcome a little more than 25,000 guests this year. In 2021 there were a little more than 24,000 throughout the season,” says Geisböck in the OÖN interview.
“The weather was worse last summer, this year it was often nice. We’re really happy with the season so far.” In 2020, the first year of the corona pandemic, 25,000 guests came, in 2019 there were 35,000 visitors and in 2018 around 38,000.
“If August is also nice, then I expect at least 35,000 visitors by the end of the season,” says Geisböck. The water temperature is consistently around 25 degrees. It is gratifying that there have been no significant incidents or accidents so far. On the best-attended day so far this year, 1,500 people came to cool off in the outdoor pool. Geisböck can still remember the previous record day around 25 years ago with 2,200 guests: “You hardly saw a green spot there.”
The busiest holiday season of the year can currently be felt, and the pleasant temperatures of the lakes attract many people from the Innviertel region to the Salzkammergut, says Geisböck. “If it gets really hot, we expect 800 to 1,000 guests a day in early August.” According to Geisböck, one thing hasn’t changed in recent decades: “If the weather forecast predicts clouds or thunderstorms, even if it’s beautiful, only half as many visitors as usual come.”
The Rieder outdoor pool is open until Sunday, September 11th. “If it’s still hot at this time, it’s quite possible that we’ll extend it by a week,” says Geisböck.
