In Lower Austria and Vienna, the electricity and gas prices for customers of Energieallianz Austria (EAA) are rising earlier than expected: the index-linked price increase – for contracts that allow this – will be increased on September 1st instead of at the turn of the year.
For a household customer with electricity consumption – depending on the size of the household – of 3500 kilowatt hours (kWh) or 2000 kWh, the increase means additional monthly costs of around 57 euros or 36 euros (each including sales tax).
For household customers with an annual gas consumption – here a low 15,000 kWh for a multi-person household or 8000 kWh (realistically for a single-person household) was used – the price adjustment means additional monthly costs of around 108 euros or 60 euros (also gross).
EVN announced that such index adjustments will be made twice a year in the future. Burgenland Energie is also a member of the EAA sales channel. This remains with the existing delivery conditions and is now not increased.
The major suppliers argue that the Austrian electricity price index (ÖSPI) has risen by 247 percent within a year and the Austrian gas price index (ÖGPI) has risen by 323 percent. The early adjustment applies to all contracts that do not contain detailed price adjustment clauses in the price sheet.
Wien Energie and EVN point to loyalty and discount campaigns that would cushion the price increases. In Lower Austria there is a state electricity price discount, here the election takes place in January.
