Prehistoric treasures discovered during construction work

The relics are probably several thousand years old, according to the first estimates of the archaeologists who are now busy with the excavation.

The non-profit association Oberösterreich Wohnbau wants to build a settlement with semi-detached and terraced houses on the site. During excavations, workers have come across the relics. The OÖ Wohnbau commissioned a team of archaeologists to carry out more detailed investigations. Archaeologist Katharina Heiss was quoted by ORF as saying that there are first indications of settlements from the early and late Bronze Age. People may have lived in the area of today’s Kronstorf for a longer period of time, and the proximity to the water of the Enns may have been an important factor for settlement. According to the archaeologist Alexander Stagl, it is not yet possible to say more, one has to wait for the further evaluations.

Upper Austrian housing manager Bernhard Baier said that the site should not be entered. However, the archaeological investigations would not lead to delays in the construction project.
