G7 foreign ministers on Wednesday expressed a joint commitment to maintaining international order, warning of “unnecessary escalation” from China in the Taiwan Strait.
In a joint statement, the ministers of Germany, Canada, the United States, France, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the High Representative of the European Union for External Relations expressed their concern about “the announced threatening actions of the People’s Republic of China, in special live firing and economic coercion, which are fraught with unnecessary escalation.”
These ministers believed that “there is no reason to use the visit [da presidente da Câmara dos Representantes dos EUA, Nancy Pelosi, a Taiwan] for aggressive military activities in the Taiwan Strait.”
