Michael Raffl leaves the NHL

The Villacher, who last played for the Dallas Stars and whose contract there recently expired, joins Lausanne HC. The 33-year-old forward has signed a two-year contract, the National League club announced on Thursday. Raffl has 96 goals and 94 assists in 629 NHL games for the Philadelphia Flyers, Washington Capitals and Stars.

Lausanne head coach John Fust was delighted with the Carinthian’s commitment. “Michael has proven his worth as a leader in the NHL and in the Austrian national team. He has a versatile profile as he can play in the center or as a winger,” explained the Canadian native.

Raffl’s new club and its home, the Vaudoise Arena, are not entirely unknown to the Carinthian. Three years ago, he and the Flyers played a friendly against Lausanne (3:4) in front of a good 10,000 spectators as part of the NHL Global Series Challenge.

Austria’s team player Benjamin Baumgartner only moved from Lausanne HC to SC Bern on Monday.
