World-class fistball was served to 800 spectators on Wednesday evening at the 14th edition of the 2100 Euro Brazilian Night. The winner’s check goes to record winner Sogipa Porto Alegre at the comeback of this sporting treat in the Kremstal.

The Brazilians, who had just barely prevented the hosts of TuS Raiffeisen Kremsmünster from entering the semifinals with 9:8, 10:9 in the preliminary round, finally defeated the surprise five from Grieskirchen/Pötting after a grandiose fistball show 11:7, 11:5.

The Grieskirchners, who also have a Brazilian in attack in Pedro Magrone Rieck, had already shot their powder by then. Their hard-fought semi-final victory against state champions and defending champions Tigers Vöcklabruck (9:8, 11:10) cost too much of their substance. However, Porto Alegre also had a hard time fighting with Enns (9:10, 11:9, 3:2) in the semifinals.

The debutant at the Brazilian Night took third place with a 2-0 win in sets in the small final against Vöcklabruck. After losing 2-0 in the placement game against Novo Hamburgo from Brazil, Kremsmünster was only sixth.

“My boys still put in a good performance and got off to a great start in this tournament with the draw against Grieskirchen,” says coach Dietmar Winterleitner, “but unfortunately we still lack the routine and the skills to keep up at this world-class level consistency.”
