A doctor called the police because the woman’s other children – two boys aged seven and nine – had come to her surgery alone. First she had tried to reach her mother, which was unsuccessful. The police then picked up the children and drove them home.
The officers finally discovered the open door at around 5:15 p.m. “They went into the apartment and didn’t see anyone at first. They found the two bodies in a room whose door was closed,” said police spokesman Markus Dittrich. The State Criminal Police Office in Vienna took over the further investigations, since the situation in which they were found suggested a homicide. How the two were killed is still unclear, an autopsy has been ordered and is currently in progress.
“The coroner was at the scene of the crime that night,” said Dittrich. A conclusion can be expected during the day, it said. The two boys were first taken to the police station on Taubstummengasse and are now being looked after by a crisis intervention team. The more detailed circumstances, in particular who is responsible for the death of the two women, is now the subject of ongoing investigations.
